Walmart Property Management Redesign
Enhancing Lease Management Efficiency Through User-Centered Design
Project Overview
Walmart's real estate property management agents required a robust and user-friendly application to manage lease agreements efficiently. The goal was to enable seamless handling of master and child leases, tenant management, and senior-level reviews prior to submission. The application needed to cater to the unique workflows and hierarchical processes within Walmart’s property management division.
Problem
Managing real estate properties for a retail giant like Walmart involves handling a high volume of lease agreements, including intricate master and child lease structures. The previous system was inefficient, causing delays in creating and reviewing leases, managing hierarchical approvals, and maintaining accurate tenant records and lease statuses.
Outcome
Develop a property management application that enables agents to create new leases while linking master agreements to child leases seamlessly. The application supports efficient tenant management by allowing data updates and tracking communication history. It also streamlines the review and approval process by incorporating senior-level workflows prior to final submission, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Design Process
User Research
Conducted one-on-one interviews with property management agents and senior reviewers to understand their workflows, pain points, and feature requests.
- Managers: Insights into their need for high-level analytics and trend tracking
- Supervisors: Requirements for real-time monitoring and coaching tools.
- Agents: Their expectations for feedback mechanisms and gamification.
Emapthy Maps
Captured the thoughts, feelings, and actions of Property Agents and Senior Reviewers.

User Personas
Developed detailed personas to represent user archetypes and guide design decisions throughout the project.

Journey Maps
Journey maps outline the end-to-end experience of users completing a task.

Information Architecture
Structured the content and navigation effectively to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Wireframing and Prototyping
- Initial wireframes focused on the lease creation and review workflow.
- Prototypes were created to test user navigation and task completion times.

Final Design
High-fidelity prototypes were developed to simulate the final product. Interactive designs were tested to refine the user flow and ensure usability.

Testing
- Conducted multiple testing sessions with agents and senior reviewers.
- Iterated designs based on feedback to improve usability and reduce cognitive load.
