Project Overview

Pulse is a mobile-enabled application available as part of the “Plan – Execute – Analyze” suite of applications, primarily targeted for distribution centers. The application provides real-time visibility into warehouse operations and enables users to make adjustments or perform corrective actions efficiently.

Problem Statement

Distribution centers face several operational challenges that impact efficiency and productivity, including:

  • Lack of real-time visibility: Operations managers and associates struggle to track ongoing processes and identify bottlenecks.
  • Inefficient workflow management: Manual processes and disconnected systems lead to delays in decision-making.
  • Limited corrective action capabilities: Without instant access to operational data, warehouse staff cannot proactively address issues.
  • Fragmented communication: Lack of a centralized communication system leads to delays and errors in task execution.

Goal

  • Enhance Real-Time Visibility: Provide live data on warehouse operations to help managers track performance.
  • Improve Workflow Efficiency: Streamline execution processes and reduce reliance on manual tracking.
  • Enable Proactive Adjustments: Allow users to make data-driven corrective actions in real time.
  • Optimize Communication: Improve collaboration between teams through integrated messaging and alerts.

User Research

We conducted one-on-one interviews and shadowed users on-site to understand their workflows, challenges, and expectations. Associates emphasized the need for task prioritization and quick inventory access, while managers highlighted bottlenecks in real-time KPI monitoring and task delegation. Observations revealed inefficiencies caused by constant back-and-forth between workstations and floor tasks.
